How to Maintain an Umbrella

How to Maintain an Umbrella

A quality umbrella that is maintained properly can last for several years. Outdoor umbrellas are exposed to the elements, so it's important to minimize any damage that may occur. The better you take care of your umbrella, the better it will be able to protect you and your family when you need it.

Things You'll Need:

Cover or tarp for storage

Mild detergent

Hose

Step
1

Keep the umbrella closed in its stand when you aren't using it. This will protect it from mild

weather

and expose less of its surface area to falling matter such as pollen and bird droppings.

Step
2

Take your umbrella down if you expect a severe storm or high winds. While good umbrellas can stand up to harsh weather, you shouldn't test it if you don't have to. If you know that a big storm is on the horizon, stow your umbrella and the rest of your lawn furniture in a garage or carport.

Step
3

Let the umbrella dry fully open if it becomes damp. Wait until it's throughly dry before you collapse it again.

Step
4

Spot treat any severe stains immediately. Even stain-resistant fabric can be damaged by berries and other falling objects. Gently scrub the affected area with mild detergent and warm water to get the stain out.

Step
5

Wash the umbrella down as needed or at least before you stow it for the winter. The umbrella should be hosed down, gently scrubbed in its entirety and then rinsed. Let the umbrella completely dry in the sun before you put it away for the season.

Step
6

Maintain the frame and shaft of the umbrella by wiping it down with a damp cloth periodically.

Tips & Warnings

Store the umbrella in a cover or wrap it in a tarp to keep dirt and insects off it over the winter.

Store the umbrella lying down on a flat surface rather than standing it up where it can be easily knocked over. Don't put anything on top of the umbrella.

Straighten all of the fabric in the umbrella before you store it to maintain a wrinkle-free appearance.

If you have an old umbrella with a wooden frame that has been weathered, you can make it look as good as new by re-staining it and applying a protective varnish coat.

Maintain removable canopies by tossing them in the laundry on occasion. Use a commercial washing machine on the gentle cycle for best results.

If you put away a damp umbrella at the end of the season, you will surely be greeted with mold and mildew when you bring it out again.

Things You'll Need:

Soft cloths

Degassing cleaner

Step
1

Achieve high quality cavitation with a perforated or mesh tray. It is important not to place instruments on the bottom surface of the cleaner. Damage to the cleaner can occur.

Step
3

Utilize the bubbles that form along the walls of the cleaner to clean the ultrasonic cleaner.

Step
4

Create a vacuum with the degassing cleanser. The vacuum acts as a suction device against the inner surface of the cleaner and aids in the removal of gases.

Step
5

Examine the transducers at the surface bottom of the ultrasonic cleaner regularly. The transducers emit the high-frequency sound waves in the cleaning chamber.

Step
6

Purchase soft cloths for maintenance of the ultrasonic cleaner. Do not use these cloths for any other purpose. Wash them separately.

Step
7

Investigate all wires for shorts or exposure. Report any dents, warn areas or abrasions to the manufacturer as soon as possible. The key to high quality sterile cleaning is maintenance.

How to Maintain a Pair of Crocs

How to Maintain a Pair of Crocs

Crocs are all the rage in footwear these days. Old and young, people of all walks of life are finding relief from ill-fitting footwear in these fun and foamy shoes. If you own a pair of Crocs, you can't protect them from the questioning stares of strangers, but you can protect them from the ravages of time. Here's how:

Step
1

Adjust the fit of your Crocs by gently stretching the heel strap outward from the shoe. Pulling too hard can cause the heel strap to detach from the shoe, so do this with some care.

Step
2

Use the special Crocs Turbo Strap instead of the regular heel strap if your feet are particularly hard to fit. The better the fit of the Crocs, the lower the chance that you'll have some sort of foam-marring accident in them.

Step
3

Wash your Crocs with warm soapy water whenever they're looking especially dirty. They're sturdy shoes, so they won't mind the grime, but your friends or co-workers might, so keep them clean.

Step
4

Know when to trade your old Crocs out for a new pair. Crocs that are worn-down can be dangerous to walk around in, especially if the tread is worn to the point of being nearly flat.

Step
5

Avoid leaving your Crocs in areas prone to high temperatures, such as the inside of a car or other poorly-ventilated enclosure that gets direct sunlight. They will shrink under high heat.

Step
6

Use Crocs Butter to renew the shoes' original luster and shine.

How to Love Being Fat

How to Love Being Fat

Fat is not a condemnation of who you are. It can be a celebration of how you look. Every woman is beautiful in her own light. Don't try reaching for someone else's standard of
beauty
when you are beautiful just the way you are. Here are a few things you can do to help you love being fat.

Step
1

Embrace your curves. Don't kid yourself. You are not built like a supermodel. So what? You also have hips, and curves. You look like a woman. Come to terms with the fact that you celebrate a standard of beauty that differs from the mainstream. Realize that you are beautiful.

Step
2

Surround yourself with images that reflect people who emulate your type of beauty. If you surround yourself with pictures of people who make you feel bad about being who you are, you are setting yourself up against an impossible ideal. Look for things that show you that being fat isn't something to be ashamed of.

Step
3

Find support. Look for groups locally or online that celebrate being fat with men and women who have learned to love being who they are. Attend events that celebrate being fat instead of hiding from it.

Step
4

Refuse to sell yourself short. If you rely on the world around you to tell you that you are good enough, you will always be disappointed. You can only find true acceptance within yourself. You show the world how to treat you by the way you treat yourself, so learn to love your fat, and the world will too.

How to Loosen Tight Boots

How to Loosen Tight Boots

If your feet and calves had gotten bigger, chances are your leather boots will be difficult to fit into. Here are some tips on what to do when your to-die-for leather boots are too tight.

Things You'll Need:

Shoemaker

Boot stretcher

Step
1

Stretch. Take your boots to your shoemaker. Most shoe repair stores can use a boot stretcher to gradually expand the leather to accommodate wider calves.

Step
2

Cut a v-notch. Either you or a shoemaker can cut a v-notch in the side of your boots to add extra leather or stretchy elastic gore to give your boots more diameters and allow you more flexibility.

Step
3

Add zipper. Some boots are slip-on only and, if your calves have gotten bigger but your feet are still the same size, you can have a zipper added so you can easily slip back into your boots.

Step
4

If you just bought your boots and it seems that they are too tight when you got back home, you can try wearing them at home for a while. They will loosen in due time, but if they do not, return them for bigger size.

How to Look Younger in a Bathing Suit

How to Look Younger in a Bathing Suit

There's nothing like seeing a teenager parade around in an itsy bitsy bikini to make you feel like wearing a tent to the pool. Even the most confident women sometimes feel old when they're wearing bathing suits--when every dimple, stretch mark and wrinkle is exposed in the blaring day light. Luckily there are lots of tricks to look younger in a bathing suit.

Step
1

Buy a new bathing suit. Even if your tank suit was incredibly flattering in 1997 and you haven't gained a pound since then, a dated style will
date
you. As much as catalogs advertise certain swimwear as having a "classic design," styles do change over time. If it's more than three years old, it's probably time for an update.

Step
2

Choose a suit that hides your flaws. Get a bathing suit with a tummy control panel to hide that pooch, choose skirted suits or cover ups to disguise saddle bags or cellulite on the tush, select dark v-neck suits to minimize a large bust and on the flip side, pick ruffled, frilly tops to create cleavage when there isn't any.

Step
3

Lengthen legs with wedge heel shoes--forget about those flat flip-flops. Stylish pool shoes paired with a stylish bathing suit gives you a hip look.

Step
4

Fake a tan. Use a moisture-rich self-tanner to give your face and body a sun-kissed look, without the prunish effects of basking in the real thing. When on the beach or at the pool, use lots of SPF to protect against aging skin damage.

Step
5

Top off your youthful look with a large, glamorous hat and some oversized sunglasses. People will wonder what celebrity just walked into the community rec center.

How to Look Wonderful While Being Plus Sized

How to Look Wonderful While Being Plus Sized

Plus sized women have more options than ever for fashion. With some consideration and planning, you can put together fashionable outfits that flatter your size and shape. Here are some tips to help you on your way to looking wonderful while being plus sized.

Step
1

Stand tall and look people in the eye. Looking wonderful while plus sized has more to do with how you carry yourself than what you're wearing.

Step
2

Buy clothes that fit. Squeezing into clothes that are too tight actually makes you look bigger than you are.

Step
3

Choose darker colored clothing with big patterns. Dark clothing creates a slimming effect, while large patterns hide imperfections better than small patterns do. Solid printed, dark colors can be mixed and matched with each other easily.

Step
4

Pick jeans that flatter your shape. Stay away from super relaxed or baggy jeans, while still avoiding super-tight or super-low-waist jeans. Try different cuts to see which are the most flattering on your individual shape.

Step
5

Wear shirts that cover your stomach, staying away from crop tops, halter tops or tiny tees. Sleeves or cap sleeves are more flattering on larger arms than sleeveless tops are.

Step
6

Keep your makeup simple and classic. Too much makeup draws unnecessary negative attention. Your hair should be pulled up off of your face for a slimming effect. Accessorize your outfit with trendy shoes and jewelry.

Step
7

Walk in high-heeled shoes if you are comfortable doing so. Heels add height, make you stand taller and look sexier.

How to look thinner in minutes

How to look thinner in minutes

Everyone wants to look thinner, diets are great but take a while, exercising makes you feel great but we don't always get the results we want. I have a couple of easy ways to get thin QUICK.

Things You'll Need:

Clothes that fit you!

Step
1

Let's start with the pants. No matter what shape your body is, if your pants don't fit, DON'T wear them.
If you are in between sizes choose the larger size, a tailor can take them in for you and it doesn't cost too much and they will look better then the smaller size.

Step
2

Golden Rule: again if it does not fit do not buy it.
However, a shirt should really follow your curves, so choose a top that goes IN where you are thin and has more ease where you are thicker.
If you are heavier on top wear darker colors and/or layer thin layers to move the eye off of the weight.
If you are thin on top, consider different colors and leave the simplicity for the bottom of your body, where you might be heavier.

Step
3

Coats don't have to be for warmth only; you can really use them to cover up problem areas. Depending on your height, you should buy a coat that is flattering.
In general, we should buy coats that stop at mid-thigh or mid calf. This will elongate your body.
If you try these lengths and they do not work on your body move into a coat that stops just above the knee.

Step
4

TRICKS OF THE TRADE
Lower necklines draw the eye to the center of the body; we need to keep it there because it makes you appear slimmer.
So continue with emphasizing your thinnest part of you body, (your waist with a empire waist, your hips with a belt, your legs with skinny legs).
If you have great legs show them off with a skirt, if you don't put a nice pair of trousers to look thinner.
Finally, WEAR HEELS, it is the trick of the trade. Invest in a comfortable pair or two. For every inch the shoe is high, you appear 2 pounds lighter. Don't go over 4 inches, for your back's sake.

Tips & Warnings

Emphasize the parts of you body that are the most attractive.

The parts that need a little help, we can hide by wearing attractive clothing.

IF IT DOESN'T FIT...DON'T WEAR IT!
