How to Realize Your Needs

How to Realize Your Needs

The art of communication is truly a gift in and of itself. Examining how you feel when you express your needs will give you the insight you need to effectively get your point across. Following are a few ideas on how to do just that.

Things You'll Need:

Journal

Desire

Patience

1

Set up your sacred space. Find a quiet place where you feel at peace and safe. Get a journal or some paper and a writing instrument. Light a candle and put on some gentle music if you choose. Take a couple of moments and quiet your mind. Relax and be patient with yourself.

2

Ask yourself these questions and then write down the first thing that comes to your mind. Do not judge the thoughts that come to mind, just write down all your thoughts - you will examine them later.
1. What am I trying to communicate?
2. When I try to communicate, how do I feel?
3. Where do I feel that feeling in my body?
4. Does it have a color or shape?
5. Do I have the same feeling every time I try to communicate?

3

If not, take some time to think back on times you have found it difficult to communicate and ask yourself:
6. Who are you trying to communicate with?
7. Is it the same person that is blocking your communication?
8. Is there a common feeling I get from each person blocking my communication?
9. When the situation is over, what do I say to myself regarding what just happened?
10. How do I feel about myself and my actions?

4

These are beginning questions to ask yourself. You may be feeling some confusion, stress or even fear after answering those questions. That is ok - remember - there are no right or wrong answers - only your truth. Center yourself again. Review your answers. What do the situations or people involved have in common?

5

Often when communication is a problem, it is because the person does not feel like what they have to say is important enough or that they are worthy. If this is the case, consider talking to someone who can help you explore those deep inner feelings and uncover the root cause.

6

If you do not want to talk to someone, talk to yourself. Ask yourself, when was the first time you remember feeling this way? How did you feel that time? Does that feeling still serve you? If not, consider releasing that experience to the past - where it belongs. Remember - That was then - This is now!
